What is the difference between Pilates and Reformer Pilates?

There are two main types of Pilates – mat work Pilates and Reformer Pilates. Both are based upon the premise of controlled movement against some form of resistance. In mat work classes, all you’ll need is yourself and a mat (gravity will provide the resistance). In Reformer Pilates classes, you are based on the reformer bed and use various pieces of spring-based equipment for additional resistance. 

Both mat and equipment Pilates, when practised with consistency, will improve your strength, coordination and mobility. There are many health benefits, such as injury prevention and improved recovery and performance for those who are doing sports training or practising yoga. 

What’s the difference between Reformcore and regular Reformer Pilates?

Reformcore is a high-energy class with playlists designed to energise you whilst bringing your mind to laser focus resulting in a kind of meditative state. In Reformcore, you will be working to your maximum for most of the class using lots of repetition to build muscular endurance and strength.This format uses tiny isometric contractions at the deeper part of full range movements to isolate and strengthen muscles. We top off each section with a finisher to get the most out of our muscles each time.

What can I expect from a Reformcore class?

This is a fast-paced class that delivers a deep-burn and a big endorphin in the end. Expect to get your heartrate up early in the class feeling immediately challenged.

What is Reformer Pilates good for?

Reformer Pilates offers a full suite of physical health and mental wellbeing benefits, including: 

  • Improved overall muscle balance in the body and creates a long and lean muscle tone 
  • Stress reduction and detoxification 
  • Improved stability and alignment of the major joints in motion, reducing occurrences of injuries 
  • Promoting a more efficient and supportive core 
  • Encouraging efficiency of movement and improves performance of day-to-day movement and sports 
  • Improving the function of the lungs and circulation 
  • Aiding the prevention of certain health conditions 
  • Focuses on movement and breath, encouraging meditative states

Is Reformcore good for beginners?

Anyone can come to the class however, this is a fast-paced, dynamic Reformer Pilates class so it is best suited for anyone who has used a reformer machine before. At this time we are unable to admit anyone who is pregnant due to health and safety reasons.

Is Reformcore hard?

Reformcore is a dynamic based challenging class that can be adapted for those who are less experienced. However, this class is not suitable for those with injuries or pregnant people as this is a workout type of Pilates, not a recovery or rehab type of Pilates. 

What are the class styles for Reformcore?

We have one style: Reformcore.

How many times a week should I do Reformcore?

We recommend 3-4 times a week to release, realign and strengthen. The more you attend, the better outcomes.

Is there a Reformcore studio near me?

You can find a Reformcore studio in Chelsea, Islington, Mayfair and St Mary Axe. Watch this space for announcements on more Reformcore studios coming soon. 

Can I do Reformcore when pregnant?

Reformcore is not suitable for pregnant people, but we have other options at our partner locations at triyoga (yoga) and Barrecore (barre).

Can I do Reformcore postpartum?

Yes, but you will need to be signed off for exercise by your medical professional.

What should I bring to class?

Please bring grippy socks and a water bottle. Grippy socks are mandatory but if you forget to bring them, you can purchase a pair in-studio.

Why do I need to wear grippy socks?

Grippy socks aid in keeping our studio and equipment hygienic and keep you safe on the Reformers. More grip means you won’tslip and they are required for health and safety. 

What is the late cancellation policy?

If you can no longer make it to a Reformcore class, you need to cancel at least 12 hours in advance. 

Studio Etiquette

When should I arrive for my class?

To ensure class can start on time, please be in the studio and at your reformer bed at least 5 minutes before class commences. If it’s your first time, please be 10 minutes early to learn about the reformer machine. 

What happens if I'm running late?

Sometimes this happens. For the safety of all members, unfortunately, class entry cannot be allowed if you do not arrive by the class start time.

What if I have injuries?

Please let your instructor know before class commences if you have any injuries or ailments that they need to be aware of.
